Of Ngā Puhi descent, Doug currently serves as Manager of Digital & ICT at Hauora Māori Service, Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, where he leads initiatives to reduce intergenerational health disparities for Māori through innovative, data-driven strategies.

Doug is also the founder of The AI Marae, a pioneering platform that blends Te Ao Māori with artificial intelligence. Through masterclasses, cultural AI tools like “Nanny Polly,” and international collaborations such as The AI Fale in Samoa, Doug empowers Indigenous communities to embrace AI for storytelling, education, and economic empowerment.
